If you are doing high speed or high torque machining, the benefits will pay for your investment many times over. The BT30 and BT40 are two excellent options.

Removal of the cutter is the same procedure as installing it, just in reverse. The procedure is the same for carbide as HHS.

 

Some CNC machining specialists in precision machine shops complain about the time required to set the tool. This can be largely avoided with some planning ahead, however, this is not always that easily done in a fast paced environment.

 

Some better quality heating fixtures are as quick as 6 seconds for a tool change. Tools can be pre-set offline, and there is no need for wrenches, nuts, or vises. This often more than makes up for the time spent heating and cooling.

 

One way to work around this is to use other tooling, such as HSK, or collects when a high speed or high torque application is not called for. Not every cut has to be as accurate as the next.

 

The runout of shrink fit tools is as near to zero as can be reasonably expected. This really becomes important when the speeds and feeds are increased, as any lack of concentricity or balance will be greatly magnified. The end mills will prematurely wear out and the finish will be less than acceptable.

 

Slippage is also eliminated, which saves cutter life and your workpiece as well. The helix angle of most cutters tends to draw the end mill out of the holder, thus the set screw detents and other methods of preventing this. With the metal to metal holding, this is not a problem.
